University of Kaiserslautern-Landau

The University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) is a medium-sized university founded in 1970 and hosts departments of Computer Science, Electrical- and Computer engineering, natural sciences and engineering, and social sciences. It has about 14,000 students from nations worldwide, approx. 4000 of whom are remote study students. The university has received excellence awards for developing teaching concepts and concepts of work-life and is scientifically recognized as a center of prestigious coordinated research consortia. RPTU is part of a dynamic alliance of universities at the border between France, Belgium, Luxemburg, and Germany (University of the Greater Region - UniGR) cooperating in research, teaching, and development. RPTU continuously and successfully participated in individual and coordinated research and training programs funded by DFG (Graduiertenkollegs, Sonderforschungsbereiche, Schwerpunktprogramme, Forschergruppen), EU and partners from industry etc. RPTU is partner or coordinator to 13 projects conducted under Horizon 2020. Four further individual projects are funded by the ERC. By this involvement to date, RPTU has procured more than 13.5 million Euros under the 7th FP.

Role

For the success of Human Centric Algebraic AI, fast learning and inference are mandatory. Hence, it is expected that similar to traditional Deep learning approaches, heterogeneous high performance compute-architectures that are enhanced with dedicated accelerators are necessary that can produce results and adapt to dynamic AI workload characteristics at real-time. EMS will focus on the compute aspect of Human Centered Algebraic AI. (Task 3.5)
